Monday, March 30, 2009

First becoming famous in her native Ukraine in the 1990s, long-haired self-described “AmazonRuslana gained international recognition for winning the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest with her song “Wild Dances,” inspired by the musical traditions of the Hutsul people of the Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains.

In the five years since, Ruslana has decided to use her name and public status to represent a number of worthy causes, including human trafficking, renewable energy, and even the basic concept of democratic process, becoming a public face of Ukraine’s Orange Revolution and later serving in Parliament.

Currently, she is on an international publicity tour to promote her album Wild Energy, a project borne out of a science fiction novel that has come to symbolize her hopes for a newer, better, freer way of life for everyone in the world. She took time to respond to questions Wikinews’s Mike Halterman posed to her about her career in music and her other endeavors.

This is the fifth in a series of interviews with past Eurovision contestants, which will be published sporadically in the lead-up to mid-May’s next contest in Moscow.

Intel launches 45nm “Penryn” processor aiming for energy-efficiency

Tuesday, November 13, 2007

This week in Taiwan Intel and other technology companies showcased server and computer hardware with processors built using “Penryn” technology, the second generation of quad core technology that is produced with the high-k metal Hafnium that has come to replace halogen and lead components, which are not environmentally safe.

This new 45 nanometer (45nm) process technology included features on Intel Streaming SIMD Extensions 4 (SSE4) compatible with video decoding (encoding) software, “Radix 16” which increased computing efficiency, and “deep power down” technology for energy efficiency. For the SSE4 feature, this will benefit makers of high-definition and AV-media, as both HDMI and 1080p are supported.

Companies that will participate in the Taiwan Informonth exhibition next month, announced that some products with “Penryn” processors will be on the market by then. Some companies like Tyan and Supermicro will provide small business solutions as well as enterprises solutions. This launch will be tied to other unveilings by the IT and AV-media industries in Taiwan.

Doctor robbed, car-jacked and locked in boot while car set alight

Monday, March 19, 2007

A 34 year old obstetrician from Forestville on Sydney’s Northern Beaches has escaped after he was robbed, car-jacked and locked in the boot (trunk) of his BMW, which was set alight. Police say the doctor was locked in the boot while his car was set alight, but was allowed to escape before flames engulfed the vehicle.

The Doctor was believed to have been heading to The Mater Hospital in North Sydney when he was waiting at the intersection of West and Falcon Streets in Chatswood around 3:15AM AEDT when a small red sedan with two men claiming to be police officers signalled him to stop. After crossing the intersection, the doctor stopped his car at the side of the road.

The doctor was then approached by the two men and when he asked to see identification, one man grabbed the keys from his car’s ignition before they both pulled the doctor out of his vehicle, hit him in the stomach with a hammer and stole his mobile phone and wallet. The robbers also demanded his key and credit cards along with their access codes before locking him in the boot.

Police allege that the men drove to several locations to withdraw cash and buy things before driving to Carisbook Street in Linley Point at around 4 a.m. local time where they set the car alight with the doctor still in the boot.

Crime Manager of the Harbourside Local Area Command, Detective Inspector Houlahan said that the doctor then “heard a click in the boot area and he heard someone call out: ‘Get out of the car'”

“When he pushed the boot up he found his car engulfed in flames.”

Det. Insp. Houlahan said the doctor told police he did not unlock the boot himself, and it appeared the man’s captors unlocked it before fleeing.

Det Insp Houlahan said that the doctor appeared to be “very distraught” and tired after the ordeal, and wanted to get home and see his wife and two young daughters.

He could only provide police with a vague description of his captors, but said the men were both Caucasian males aged in their 20s, and that one of them was about six feet tall (183cm) with short blond hair and medium build said Det. Insp. Houlahan.

Vision Inspection Manufacturer Urges 100% Inspection For Fda Guidelines

byAlma Abell

There are some companies that think making a mistake is not all that critical or costly due to the product they are manufacturing, for example, cosmetic beads, corrugated cardboard or perhaps shoelaces. After all, what’s one missing bead, or one shortened shoelace, right? Wrong! Quality control is an essential ingredient for corporate and/or manufacturing success. It can make the difference in causing a customer to become injured, making someone ill or even be fatal, depending on the circumstances. This is especially true in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industry. The risks of product contamination are many. Why rely on the eyes of one person who even on the best day will get tired when you can add the extra benefit of electronic eyes. 100% Inspection is absolutely essential.

It is important to note that it is not just Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) that your company must follow; the FDA issued a regulatory process that bans the introduction or the intent to deliver into interstate commerce of contaminated or mislabeled cosmetic products. This applies to the food and drug industry as well. Section 601 of the FDA regulations on the cosmetic production industry states a cosmetic product may be contaminated if the following applies:

1. The product or its container have potentially harmful substances not suitable for customary use.

2. It contains filth.

3. It has color additives that are not permitted, or in some instances non-certified.

4. The product is manufactured or housed in unsanitary that may become harmful to users or contaminated with filth.

The FDA warrants that a product is considered mislabeled if the label is false or misleading, its container gives misleading information as to the contents, or there is a failure to state emphatically and conspicuously all information required.

To aid in ensuring that your products are exactly what the labels say they are and contain what is supposed to be contained, you need to guarantee it with a good vision inspection system. PC Industries, located in Gurnee, Illinois guarantees to offer you performance guarantee and systems that provide you with 100% Inspection. Check them out on their website at www.pcindustries.com to get more information on how they can help you increase your output and minimize your downtime.
